Bio —

Karen Sapoznikow, President

Karen Sapoznikow was educated at Stanford University in California and Oxford University in England.  Ms. Sapoznikow spent ten years in Southern California, where she founded Seed Consulting.  Since that time, Ms. Sapoznikow has settled in the Seattle area.

Ms. Sapoznikow has spent more than eleven years in the nonprofit field.  For two years, she served as Associate Director of Fundraising for the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County (California), an organization that provides high school students with educational programming in the areas of business and law.  Ms. Sapoznikow also worked eight years as Director of the Callaway Golf Company Foundation, a private grantmaking entity supporting human service charities.

Ms. Sapoznikow was hired as Director of Community Affairs for Callaway Golf Company and as Director of the Callaway Golf Company Foundation shortly after the Foundation had been formed.  Given that the Foundation was unstaffed and had no operating program, Ms. Sapoznikow quickly set to work writing the guidelines and working papers for the Foundation.  Over the next eight years, she developed the organization into a grantmaking entity that during her tenure made more than $5 million in grants to nonprofit human service agencies.  While at Callaway Golf, Ms. Sapoznikow also:

  • founded an employee volunteer program, allowing corporate employees to participate in monthly volunteer activities within their community;
  • developed and implemented a scholarship program that awards grants for undergraduate education to children of corporate employees; and
  • created an employee matching gift program that matched almost 200 gifts in its first year.

Ms. Sapoznikow is very proud to have been part of the development of a regional association of grantmakers for the San Diego area.  Ms. Sapoznikow sat on the Executive Task Force overseeing the process and served as the inaugural Chair of the Program Committee.  In subsequent years, she continued her participation as a member of the organization's newly-formed Board of Directors.

Ms. Sapoznikow is an alumna of LEAD San Diego, a year-long leadership and community awareness program.  She speaks to fundraising groups interested in writing better grant proposals and to groups interested in the subject of corporate giving.
